If you should find yourself yearning for open space, a place to retreat to and to reconnect with the natural world then nestled near the east coast of Northland you will find Kōmanawa.
This Northland retreat is half an hour north of Whangarei, four hundred acres of a beautiful. enchanting land lie waiting for you. A place in which to breathe and rejuvenate.
The property consists of a sheltered, flat, grassy valley which gradually climbs up through 250 acres of regenerating bush to come out on top at 1,000 feet up. Rolling paddocks and wide, open vistas give magnificent 360 degree views and on a clear day these range from Cape Brett and the Whangarei heads to the north and east and then on round to the far south and West.
The name, Kōmanawa, means springwater and there are many spring fed streams burbling down through the property with, at its heart, a 90 foot waterfall. This cascades down three tiers with a pool at the bottom of each tier.
The name also, magically, means bird song, wind, heart, breath, mind, spirit. sustenance, encouragement and support. All of which captures the intention we have for Komanawa to be a place of peace.
While acknowledging its history and links to Tangata Whenua and pioneering families we see ourselves as conduits from past generations to future generations, as inheritors of dreams, stories
and ways of thinking about this precious land. Our wish is to enhance and caretake this wonderful place to the benefit of all those who may venture here.
We have a variety of accommodations for you to stay from a four bedroom Farmhouse which has all the mod cons to small, rustic places where you get to experience a taste of New Zealand backcountry huts but with the added comfort of soft towels and lovely linen.
