Nestled into a gentle valley, the Shepherd’s Hut is a beautiful stand alone cottage situated near to the original Farmhouse. It is part of Komanawa, a 400 acre lifestyle farm. It was once the accommodation for the Shearers and Shepherds to stay in but is now a warm fully self-contained, private, north-facing dwelling with its own entrances and parking out the front.
The recently installed heat-pump makes it a toasty winter get away.
It has a completely self contained kitchen which includes a fridge, gas hob top, toaster, kettle, coffee pot and out door BBQ.
You will need to bring all the food you require as we are 30 minutes from the nearest shopping facilities in Whangarei.
We provide milk, tea, coffee and condiments.
One bedroom is in a separate room with a door and has a queen sized bed. The other potential bed is a folding couch.
We also provide good quality linen, towels and tea towels.
The bathroom has a toilet and shower in a separate room with a door.
Sitting on the porch with your morning cup of coffee you can while away the hours listening to the bubbling river which meanders through the pretty valley and watch the hawks drifting high up over the ridge. Sometimes you can hear the 140′ waterfall at the other end of the valley.
We are approx. half an hour from the beautiful and safe, east coast beaches and the renowned Helena Bay Cafe and Art Gallery. There are many walking tracks in the area and we are only an hour from the Bay of Islands and many historic sites.
Guests have access to all parts of the property apart from some restricted areas, highlighted in our risk management policy, which are deemed unsafe, steep or inaccessible.
Other things to note
We don’t have great cell phone reception or WIFI in the Valley but these can be accessed at the Woolshed.
We have a laundry and dryer available under the Woolshed.
